My whistle blowing experience

I was out there working for a not to be named university and on a federal grant to create a Master’s Degree in Accountancy.   Actually the program was set up in another country for the purpose of helping that country gain more transparency and avoid (detect and disclose) much of the fraudulent behavior that had been in existance.

We received the money from the US government through a grant program, used the US university for resources and used the host university for facilities.

I realized after working there awhile that the president of the university, every time there was a contract let, would ask for and receive a percentage for himself.  Thus, there was only a limited amount of money in the total grant, but any where between 10-20% of  each expenditure was going to this individual.

Should I blow the whistle?  To Whom?  How?

I would love to hear your thoughts and then I will tell u what I did and what happened next!!

    Dr. L,
I would say you have to report this. I would report it to the Grant Administrator at the US Government office from which the grant was given. Doesn’t the President of the University have to provide back up documents for the grant money?
